Hibberd
called the Browallia the American, or Occidental, forget-me-not.
The Browallia elata had two varieties, the
blue and the white.
To
grow this pretty flower it was necessary to sow the
seed in March in light rich soil, placing the pan containing
the seed on a mild hotbed
or a warm greenhouse.
When the plants were somewhat forward they could be
pricked out into pots, and have another period of growth
within a warm house. Finally, having been hardened off
(in frames),
they could be planted out into the garden.
The
Browallia might also be advantageously employed within
the Victorian conservatory as a summer flower.
