An English Parterre, bordered with verges of Turf

While this parterre is composed almost entirely of turf, perhaps picked out with lines of gravel, the whole could be enlivened with pyramids, or other geometric shapes, of ivy or box within the pattern. This was apparently easier to keep than a border of flowers, required less work, and looked more elegant for the town garden.
