Every building programme and restoration project has its low point, and this was mine. The verandah was dragging on and on ... the mess was incredible and the builders had no intention of cleaning up. The winter and spring was particularly damp and gloomy, everything was overgrown ... and I couldn't see how either the verandah or garden could ever be saved.
